My passion for teaching is part of the reason I became involved with the Skin and Cancer foundation, which has a training program for registrars, it also lead me to setup my own clinic – the Dermatology Institute of Victoria where I could create an environment that embraced new technologies. The Dermatology Institute of Victoria has an emphasis on development of techniques and bringing the newest and best technologies and processes to this clinic and then on to patients. I was the first dermatologist to use certain forms of light treatment for medical disorders, started the first nail clinic, was one the first dermatologists to perform laser resurfacing worldwide and have been involved with most studies introducing new fillers to market in Australia.
I am very proud to have helped set up the Skin and Cancer foundation in Melbourne, a home for training and research in Dermatology in the 1980s and 1990s and am a past president of that organisation over some seven years. I have organised 2 international conferences on Australian shores and have started a new educational body (the Australasian Society of Cosmetic Dermatologists) totally dedicated to furthering standards and knowledge of dermatologists in their practices.
